History

Issyk Valley is an amazing, unique place in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau ridge. A wonderful island with favorable climatic conditions at an altitude of 850 m above sea level.

The history of the region goes back centuries. According to the historical records, the valley was a busy section of the Great Silk Road of the 6th–7th centuries. The millennial dialogue of civilizations influenced the cultural heritage represented by magnificent examples. For example, archaeologists discovered here the Golden Man (Altyn Adam), the famous remains of a Saka warrior in golden armor.

The history of the Issyk winery dates back to 1932, and today it is the oldest wine producer in Kazakhstan. Its own apple gardens  cover an area of more than 400 hectares. Thanks to the geographical, soil and climatic conditions of the Issyk Valley, as well as the talent of the winemakers, it was possible to preserve the originality of the taste qualities of the wine and a special unique character.

Apple orchards are the pride of the winery. The variety of species made it possible to establish the production of cider – a bright, balanced drink with its own aroma and taste, including varieties of wild apple Malus Sieversii).

The Sieversii apple tree is the ancestor of all apple trees, according to DNA research by scientists at Oxford University (UK). The apple tree was named Malus Sieversii after the St. Petersburg botanist Johann Sievers, who was the first to describe the apple tree during an expedition to Central Asia in 1792-1794.

Almaty apples can rightfully become a recognizable national brand all over the world.

The region, along with its apples, is famous for other garden and fruit crops.

If this sphere is properly developed, the region will ensure supply for the whole of Kazakhstan and even become an exporter

About the company

In order to compete in the market, keep production volumes and stable quality the Issyk Winery has modernized and updated the old equipment.

Today, the plant is famous for products presented in several categories:

  • Grape line
  • Fruit line
  • Strong alcohol

The company carries out a full cycle of winemaking – from the production of seedlings to the processing of apples. Our own raw material base expands the possibilities and allows us to create natural, high-quality products.

The Issyk winery represents a European equipment, modern production methods, innovations and traditional accumulated experience in winemaking, which makes it possible to produce products not only of a large range, but also of excellent quality. One of the goals of the winery is a gradual revival of apple orchards in the apple region – Almaty and Almaty Oblast, from the very beginning of the production cycle – from the parent nursery-garden, where the initial planting material would be grown – seedling stock, cleft-graft scion, and subsequently the seedlings themselves.

Following the scientific research, together with a group of scientists and national institutes in the field of growing fruit crops, the company focused on seedling stocks and varieties of apples most resistant to diseases and pests.

These varieties were based on clones of the Sieversii apple tree, the ancestor of all apples, whose homeland is the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The company established its own collection garden, which today contains dozens of unique varieties. These varieties are being used both in industrial garden planting and in scientific observations.
